I bought a new chain and sprockets because old chain was streched. ive followed the chain tightening steps but havent gotten any results. i have a 03 trail boss 330 does any body know any thing else i can try

 

what kind of problem are you having? you cant tighten it or?

 

Do you mean the new chain is too long? Or is there something wrong with your chain adjust mechanism?

You may have to take a couple links out of the chain.....

Double check to make sure the sprockets all have the correct amount of teeth, if the gearing is the same check the new chain length against the old. Chances are the new chain is a bit too long.

If you do have to remove some links invest in a $20 chain breaker and pop out a couple links...... I think that $20 chain breaker is the tool that has given me the most value by far. It makes taking out a link such a simple and pain free process.

If its your chain adjuster itself, well that's another issue.

 

the sprockets and chain are the stock size. when i roll it forward and back there is no difference in the tension it just stays loose

 

ya those intructions are a little strange. you have to hold the eccentric housing when you roll it forward. So that it turns in the swingarm. There are a few different methods to achieve this.

 

the proper way to do it is to use straps to suck the rear suspension down all the way. then you put a punch through the sprocket and into a hole into the eccentric. then you roll the machine forward which will move the eccentric. i believe there is supposed to be 1 inch of flex in the chain at full suspension compression. You need to make sure the suspension is compressed all the way because the chain tightens with the suspension compression. if you tighten the chain to much with the suspension not all the way down it would be too tight if you hit a big bump or land a jump..

The last time i was in a hurry and didnt have a punch or straps i just loosened the eccentric and used a pipe wrench to adjust it( but i have a good idea of what the chain is supposed to look like at normal ride height)
