Default Stone punctured aluminum rim

long story short: got stuck, lots of big stones in mud, when pulled out i guess a stone got between inside of rim and brakes. it punctured the inside of the rim, No wonder I couldn't find the leak in the tire. a 2 inch slit on the inside of my rim, Can I fix it? JB weld or something?

I have never heard of this happening.

I will put up some pics tomorrow. Don't want to buy a new rim right now.

Help please any suggestions.

JB Weld won't hold and aluminum is not cheap to get welded. May have to check out ebay or craigslist for an inexpensive replacement.

I bet you could find a replacement fairly cheap, but I'd see about welding it

PS where are you located

If it's just a crack/slit it should'nt be a big deal to repair. I would'nt think a welder would charge you more than about $50 Sounds like less than an hour's work at worst. At least that's my rate. I guess it all depends on the going rates in your area.

I use jb weld on aluminum boats that we put holes into, why would it not work on a rim that just needs to hold 5 psi of air in?

JB weld will probably hold for a while, but it will be susceptible to the same type of damage. I would think getting it welded would be an option, but if you have to remove the tire to do it, just buy another rim.

here are some pics of the damage.
I just wanna say thanks for all the suggestions. This forum is a wealth of knowledge and helpful people.
I was thinking of calling around on Monday to see if any shops in the area can weld aluminum and what they would charge. I can't see it taking more than 5 minutes to fix if that.
But I will need to remove the tire.
I bought some JB weld so I might try that as well if I have no luck on finding a welder.
I would buy new rims but all the good deals are with free shipping to the states but they charge an arm and leg to ship to Canada.

Any tips on getting the tire off the rim.
