Default 07 800x2 belt change help

I was changing the belt on my Ranger and decided to do the same for my 800 given that it has 2000 miles on the original belt. However, there is alot of plastic covering the belt housing. How much of that plastic needs to come off in order to get the cover off and roll a new belt on? Thanks in advance for any helpful hints to make it easier.

Go to Youtube and type in "polaris belt change". You will see several choices for videos on belt changes.....also check out the stickies at the top of the Polaris forum page, lots of good info for belt changes and just about everything else. Good luck.....NoJoke

I have the same ATV, and the easiest w/o Blood on the knuckles is to pop the fasteners out around the fenders, 4 bolts on floor board, and the 8 bolts on the clutch cover, and of course a 6 pack of your favorite Ales!!! 2000 miles should require a clutch rebuild too

Thanks for the advice. I did check the stickies and the expert village videos and the one that looked most relevent was of course disabled. The other one only showed how to roll a belt off a pulley, duh. As far as the plastic fasteners, what is the best way to remove and reinstall those withour breaking them or the surrounding plastic? Thanks in advance.

Uncertifiedmechanic.....are you sure about that clutch rebuild after 2000 miles? I can see replacing a belt once in a while but it seems a little soon for a clutch rebuild.....or is a rebuild a quick and easy thing on the X2. I replaced my belt at 1500 miles plus and it added more zip to the bike and I think the clutches are still strong.......just asking, Thanx.....NoJoke

I am sure, you would not believe the amount of belt dust that accumulates inside the clutches. If you mic'd out a used belt vs. a new one, I can certainly direct you to where the remains are. I rebuild clutches all the time, with 4 snowmobiles and 2 ATV's plus what I do for others on the side, keeps me busy to say the least! Let me know if you need your clutches gone through, I have all the equipment

2000 miles should require a clutch rebuild too

WOW I got 8000 miles on a sled without a rebuild being needed on and have 7000 miles on our 97 SP500 with out a clutch issues.

Belts last me 2000 miles easily so that would mean a clutch over haul after every belt change?
