Default First oil change xp

I need to know if you guys take your Xp in to the dealer for its first oil change? I was told by dealer your first oil change should be done by us so we can do other point checks and any new service bulletins that are available.

I always do my own. I just get the filter and oil at the auto store.

I change my own. Save money and buy Mobil 1 and a NAPA (WIX)_ fileter. Same oil and a better filter for less $$$$$$$$$$

Doesn't hurt to have the dealer do the initial oil change and break-in service. Could help you down the road if you have warranty work.

I know with my Buell it was recommended to go that route which has helped out a lot because of some warranty work I needed done.

There's a few posts I've seen here where folks got hosed by the dealer on warranty issues. If you ever do bring it in make sure it is clean inside and out.

Default xp initial oil change

did mine today and checked all fluids and found the trans fluid to be low also if you remove the right footwell you can get to the oil filter with a plier type oil wrench which was good because the oil filter was surely put on by the hulk himself

I took mine in for the first oil change but do them myself after that. They really hose you for doing a simple oil change! I don't remember exactly how much it was but I do know it was totally outrageous! I do still use the Polaris oil and filter though.

All my friends have high mile quads. The newest one in the group is mine with 479 miles, the next newest is a 09 SP800 w/ 1400 miles & everyone else has around 4000 miles. All the quads still run perfect. We all do our own changes. I say save your money and go to the parts store and have it done for around 20 bucks. JMO.

I do mine thinking if there was a problem with the 850 that needed work under warranty it would show up by the first oil change. We have 3, 2 500s and a 850 and never needed the warranty for any work.
If I do it myself I know it's done right and won't find something broken or loose later.

I leaning towards the first one on dealer this way the first service looks good on paper never know I might need warranty. One thing its going to get is a plate cover under the oil filter to keep me from punching a hole in the filter.

gaspumpcity, from what I hear, they Richochet skid plates have plate to cover the filter, and have added footwell protection, you can PM Highoctane if you want more information on them
