Default Debris in Oil

Well, I did a 10 hour break-in oil change last night and to my surprise, when I drained the crackcase, a small 2" piece of what looked like paper came out with the oil. I have no idea what it is and don't know how it got there. Must of been during assembly of the engine I'm guessing. The bike has been running fine. Wondering if I should be concerned or just glad that it's out. I saved the piece in case.

Thats weird. Maybe let the dealer know about it just incase it causes trouble for you down the road? Could it be part of the oil filter, that is the only thing I can think of that is paper in or around the engine????? 2" is a bit big to come out of the filter mesh though.....

Was there any metal particles in the oil? If not you are OK. I bet it was from the oil filter. I use NAPA Gold (Wix) filters instead of the Polaris brand (a better filter the cost a dollar less.

How could it be from the oil filter when the debris was in the oil pan? Oil from the pan to the oil filter to moving parts then drains back to the pan. Pictures of the finding would be nice.

I did feel some fine metal particles between my fingers when I checked the oil afterwards, but it's my understanding that that is normal during break-in of a new engine. The rings of the piston rubs the cylinder walls due to its honing pattern and some metal fragments rub off as the process of seating the rings against those cylinder walls progresses. As time passes, that seal is made complete and there should be no more metal fragements in future oil changes.

do you have any pics, and as the others said, the small amounts of material is ok, but it's hard to say what you may have found

Well I think I got it figured out. I put some paper towel, regular white paper and some other types of material in a container of oil overnight to saturate it in order too compare to the piece in question. From what I can tell, it looks like it might be a small piece of paper towel. Now how that got in there is stumping me? I guess I shouldn't be too concerned because how much damage could really have been done?
