As soon as Yamaha builds a two-up, comfortable as a Polaris, true 4x4, I will. That's why I'm purchasing a Polaris 550X2....not a single ATV maker out there makes what I am looking for in a more reliable platform. Trust me, if Yamaha, Suzuki, or Honda made an ATV like the 550X2....I would be buying it.
With the passenger sitting so high up raising the center a gravity that much more is why we will continue to ride 2-up on a conventional ATV.
Besides, I have no interest in BuRPs, Polaris or ACs. IMO all three are overweight and have reliability issues.
If our next ATV isn't a new Rubicon we'll buy a new Suzuki KQ 750.
One sad note is that most of the ATV manufactures are trading the recoil start for the power steering; it's all a weight issue. I feel that alone makes them even more un-reliable.
quote from the Polaris website
"The 2010 Polaris Sportsman® 550 Touring EPS ATV is the most comfortable ATV On The planet. This powerful & comfortable touring model is the ideal 2-person ATV for ATV trail riding. Key features are:
42 HP 549cc SOHC EFI Engine
Adjustable Rear Comfort Ride Seat Suspension(TM)
Electronic Power Steering (EPS)
Rolled Independent Rear Suspension (IRS)" unquote
It carries two passengers, where do you carry the things that you want to take with you??

From what I have been told the 2-up ATVs with two riders have stability problems and the Japanese companies don't want the liability.

I can't speak for the other 2up machines but my 2010 Can-Am Max is very stable when riding 2up,WAY more stable than a single seater. The difference is night and day.
I used to ride 2up on single seat ATVs all the time...never again unless out of shear necessity...the Max with a passenger is more stable and more comfortable for both rider and passenger.

I guessing you haven't tested out a 2up ATV....

What ATV did you used to ride 2-up on?? There are several out there that will tip over on a flat road just sitting there idling.
The only 2-ups that I have ridden is a 2009 800 2-up Outlander and a 2010 Polaris 550 2-up but without a passenger.
I’ll admit that I have never ridden an AC 2-up or any of the older ones.
I was unimpressed with how bad the Outlander leans and pushes in corners.
No ATV has everything. The power and ride was very impressive on the 800 and that’s about it, nothing else impressed me.
Oh, and I liked the storage compartments on the Outlander too.
The front "trunk" on the 550 is a joke and there is NO place to put anything on it at all. No space behind the seat and anything on front will block the headlight. What were they thinking? Is there even enough storage to a role of toilet paper??
JMO.

He wanted to get some seat time in on both a Polaris and an Outlander so I went along with him.
I do enjoy getting some seat time on different ATVs.
"If" we did buy a 2-up I would take the Outlander 800 hands down over all of the others.
It's the Polaris 550 Touring that has "ZERO" room for anything.
