Default squeeky front end

08 sportsman 500efi.

The front end is driving me nuts. Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone have a remedy. I Tried spraying wd-40 where I thought the sounds were coming from, that didn't work.

Loosen the front stut/spring add antiseze to the upper mount bushing. This should solve your problem.

You sure it's coming from the front and not the rear near the exhaust . I had to put a spring on my exhaust plate ( picture in gallery ) as the rattling sound drove me nuts .

That noise is comeing from under your handlebars. In the steering shaft there is rubber that when it gets wet it squeakes. I have the came prob. I have a 05 polaris sportsman 500 ho. i spray spray silicone in the steering shaft. If you look under the pod spray it where the handlebar thing turns on top of the steering shaft. It will then go a way for a little bit then it comes back. Either replace rubber or just keep spraying silicone ow w-d 40. (its cheaper)

polaris man is right. i used to have the same problem with mine until i sprayed the upper bushing. back in the old days they used to have a greaseable bushing that just needed a yearly squirt. some units still have a pilot hole where you can tap a zerk into .

For as much as we pay for these machines there shouldn't be any squeeks. I will look to do the silicone trick also. Thanks for the help.

Whats the trick to loosening the top strut mount to get to the bushing? Where you need the 2 wrenches, I can't get it to budge. I sprayed pb blaster and still won't. Is it ok to use a impact on it?

Its a nice machine, but the little things are enough to drive me nuts though. I can only hope to make it better.

I ride with 3 other 08 500 sportsmans, mine being the only efi. So far all of them has needed breaks, 2 needed flywheel keys. 2 torn boots, 1 rear master cylinder. All of them the drive selector is a pain to use.
