Nice post deerwagon. Glad it worked out for you.

Ya know, I'm not sure how many times we talked about these plugs, start up, etc.... Polaris even sent out a letter to the dealers, and people still don't see it. Not ranting or anything, it's just amazing how long it takes to get the word out.

I trust my bike with 6000miles like I did when it had 6 miles , it run's the same today as when I bought it . I guess what I'm saying is where does EFI make things better , you pay more for a EFI machine but what really do you get more . And don't say they start better lets have a good decision .
The reason you have little problems is probably because you ride so often. Most people never even break in a machine, let alone understand how to ride it. I've seen plenty of carb machines with tons of starting problems. Mostly because they were never ridden enough. Alot of trouble with carb build up, batteries, etc. up here because it's cold and people leave them sit too long.

Great Thread and Great Advice.

I'm going to tell my wife I need to ride more often so the machine performs better. Best excuse yet. I like it.

Anyone know a good replacement plug for a 09 500 HO. I'm thinking now that I should carry an extra.

Thanks - I have to say - I was pizzed when it didn't start. I would not trade my quad for a CARB over an EFI if you paid me 2K. My last machine was a 2005' 700 EFI. When my buddy with his SP500, my dad with his Foreman 400 and many others would start their machines when ice fishing - they would have to sit on their quads and hold the choke for 5 minutes to get an Idle. I, like I do now with my 850XP - Bump the key and she's running. The pullstart is (or lack of) a negative - but, I carry a jump-box with me - so, not a prob. Not to mention I don't ever have to adjust it based on altitude, temp, etc.

I'm a little offended that my salesman didn't tell me about the plug prob and suggest to carry replacements and/or throw in a few to get rid of the negative advertising. I have to tell you - I just started my quad (and let warm up) and plowed my drive again with my new "Glacier II" - I LOVE THIS QUAD AND THE PLOW IS BETTER THAN THE G1...Jeff

The only place I could find this plug is at ClubPlug.com. or at sparkplugs.com

Talking Great tips

I've got a 2013 Sportsman 850 EFI that would NOT start in cold weather. I've been frustrated ever since I went hunting last November but came across this post.

I ordered 4 of the NGK 6043 plugs from RockAuto.com and swapped out the plugs...the machine started right away, idled at 1235rmp and runs like a champ.

I was so frustrated, as the dealership was no help and said I needed to leave the machine with them until they could reproduce the problem. Well that was tough since it was April and cold weather is hard to come by. That said I did the plug swap on Sunday 5/14/17 and guess what.....snow storm hit Colorado late this week. It was 28deg this morning so I walked outside, turned the key and let the fuel-system prime for a few seconds, hit the ignition and BAM good to go even in cold weather.

Rockauto sold the plugs in 4 packs for $34 plus I found a free shipping deal. Best 20 minutes and $35 I spent in a very long time.

Thanks for the tips and insight here Gents!
