800 or 850xp???

Unless you are referring to total miles per tank theres no way.

That is my experience running with 3 other 800's. Two were under 500 miles on them, the other had 1500+ miles, and were all 08's.

Nope, but I'd keep one with you and plan on having to do it some day. I ride in the winter and might be forced some day/night to either change the belt, or abandon the bike and walk miles back to civilization. Best to be prepared for worst case situation. I've opened my belt case and pulled it off twice now.
UHHHHH. Patriots are getting killed, and there's still 3 minutes left in the 1st quarter.

I don't know for sure, but the 800s I ride with are always having to stop and get gas, or stop riding and turn around. They're constantly running scared of running out of gas. I have no actual statistics to back this up....just what I've noticed on the trail. Mileage appears worse for sure, but don't know the amount.

My experience..
Same trails,same riding style
08 Polaris 800 on stock tires 1up..~11mpg
09 Poalris 850 on 26" Big Horns 1up~16mpg
10 Can-Am 800 on 26" BHs with a passenger ~ ??mpg...ok I won't rub it in lol.
The Polaris 800 getting 1/2 as the mileage as the 850 might be a little stretch...but riding both it is obvious the 850 does better.
I thought it was common knowledge the Polaris 800's suck down the gas? I would guess gearing/clutching is a good part of that? I don't recall high range final drive ratios, but even if they are close clutching is the the main way gearing is changed anyway(except at min and max speed) So clutching differences can change cruise RPM even with the same final drive ratio and my 800 revved a good bit higher than the 850 out on the trail..
An anaology from my memory I'd say high range was on the 800 was roughly in between low range and high range on the 850 when cruising.

i dont know what to say.. you guys keep saying the "guys your riding with" but have no actual experience... i get over 20mpg on my 800 with average speeds of 15-20 mph(gps average speed, cruising speeds were 25-35mph) riding and quite a few WOT runs.... Mine is an 05, maybe the later years have a fat fuel curve that sucks up the fuel. the tank is smaller then most at 4.1 gallons but actual fuel mileage is good, atleast mine is. I got 90 miles to one tank when i pushed the fuel edge. I mean if you have an x2 500 with a 6 gallon tank you really cant compare.... The 4 gallon tank isnt great but i dont mind carrying a fuel can.
The 850 xp with powersteering has a 4.5 or 5.3(without eps) gallon tank so the range will be more but i would bet actual mpg is nearly the same.
maybe im just lucky. my 94 sportsman 400 2 stroke gets around 18 mpg with a leaky overflow on the carb. I dont ride either machine easy... im always the lead rider and waiting for people to catch up... wide open throttle off the corners.. i dunno lol

on a side note an 03 700 got almost the same gas mileage as me.. 2-3mpg less then the 500 efis.

My 08 SP800 HO would run out of fuel at about 100 miles (about the same time as my buddy with his 07 800 would). Average speeds of 30-35 mph on flat curvy trails & hard on the throttle at times. My 850XP Non ESP would run out of gas at about 110 miles. My new 850XP with EPS I have not ran out of fuel with yet. Sorry cant give you the miles on that one. Hope this helps.
