Default Simple question ? ?

Hello everyone, This is my first post. I am fairly new to the ATV world. I have been looking for a project to work on and, just picked up a, no compression, Scrambler 400 2x4. Would like to get a factory service manual. I was told it was a 2000 year model. My question is where is the VIN # located ? Is it stamped on the frame?
Thanks Bill

Welcome! If I remember right the VIN# should be on the lower left of the frame!

It should be on the underside frame rail on gear selecter side or frame underside front frame tube near neck. Look under front fender

Well after disassembling and searching I found the vin under the seat stamped on top of the cross member for the rear shock. It turns out the quad is a 97 model scrambler 400. Now I need a good manual for this,I called the dealer today and was told they did not offer a FSM specific for that year/model. Does anyone have any suggestions ie; Clymer, haynes etc?

I have never found a non-OEM service manual for scramblers.

If you want one for a 500. Haynes & Clymer cover that Scrambler. The Tech at the dealer told me for the 97 400 ,that those FSMs are really large and cover many years and models, thus large price. Suggested I get an after market manual, that also would probally cover many years/models ,but affordable.

Try eBay. I was able to find service manuals for all the machines I've owned.

Ordered a manual on ebay this morning. Found one called repair pro on cd, never heard of them. I will post later to give my opinion on it.
Thanks Bill
