Oil Crossover for 850XP
#1
I just went to the store and bought some Mobile 1 (OW-40 fully synthetic oil). I'm assuming that this is the same as the Polaris OW-40. I'm wanting to change the oil right now so any quick response would be appreciated. Is this compatible? Thanks...Jeff

Thanks again - would love some more feedback...Jeff
The PS-4 PLUS says right underneath that OW-40 fully synthetic.

I have run Mobil 1 for years in all six SP 500s we have owned and use NAPA (made by WIX) Gold oil filters (51358) and have excellent results while saving $$$$$.

This is a timely post for me also. I have been using the search function and decided on the NAPA Gold #1358 but was blown away at the price of it at my local store, $21.67 discounted to 12.69 +.70 tax = $13.39 I think I will look for the Wix #51358 at another store for the next change.
For oil, I could not find a oil with similar viscosity. I decided on Amsoil 0W-40 Formula 4 Stroke full sythetic for $9.95 each. In order to get a 50 weight the only thing available locally would be a 20W-50 which I think would be too thick at start up, to run here in the North. It may be OK in the South in the hot summer, I don't know.
I don't think there is a similar labled 2W-50 oil on the market right now other than the Polaris oil. Hopefully someone will come up with something that will help us out in the future.
By the way you will need a 65-67 mm cap oil filter wrench for removing the filter on the XP.
the filters use the smaller 65 size. They can be purchace almost any place for about $3.00 for a metal one.

this is the email i got from royal purple today....
The 2W-50 is a viscosity grade unique to Polaris. The Royal Purple Max Cycle 10W-40 (part #01315, quart bottle) would likely work great in your ATV, if you do not live in an extremely cold climate. For very cold climates Royal Purple SAE 5W-40 (part #01540, quart bottle) would also be an option. Since this 2W-50 is basically a Polaris-only viscosity grade, your options for this exact fluid will be limited to the Polaris fluid.
Thanks for considering Royal Purple and have a great day.

Polaris made up there own new crazy 2w-50 because no oil company makes a weight like that or ever will like Polaris other 0w-40 oil. The plan is no one will go aftermarket like they do with their 0w-40.
The first digit is the important cold start number for oil(0w.2w). the last number(40,50) is just the up to temp operation number for oil.
The difference from 2w and 0w can,t make much difference. I would bet 0w-40 would be fine especially being a full synthetic.

Makes one wonder about the "importance" of a very specific oil for the new models. Maybe we shouldn't be looking to use a replacement oil????

Well, I had the same issue with my 2010 550X2. I want to stay with as close as possible to the correct viscosity that Polaris advises....yet I want the very best quality synthetic with a base oil and add pack that I know I can trust.
My results after many searches? Red Line 5w50. This oil nearly matches the OEM weight and from using Red Line's superior products I KNOW I am getting the best I can find. (My opinion).
