Countryguy to answer your question a "leatherman" is one of thoughs plier like looking things with all the accessories like knives, scissors, files, etc. that pop out from each side of the handle. It's like a swiss army knife except it looks like a pair of pliers.

Don't recommend using it, but a can of fix-a-flat can save your bacon, unless you don't mind a nice walk back to wherever.

OK it's my turn. This is what is in my quad box when I go out trail riding.
A chain saw
50' 1/2" rope
8' length of chain + 10 12" nails. If there are no trees to winch to, lay the chain on the ground and every 6" or so push the nails through the chain into the ground. Then hook your winch the end of the chain and winch yourself out.
A Come-a-long
A ****** block
In my P toolbox is:
A tool kit with misc wrenches screw driver etc.
Spare spark plug
Small air compressor
Tire plug kit
Circuit diagram of my quad
Voltage tester
First aid kit
LP tire gauge
I also carry a GPS and topos
I think that's about it. If I think of something else I'll repost.

No big deal if your close to home, but for them long, faraway ride. Like a snow mobil, an extra belt is a good thing to have in your bed of your truck. I've burned a belt and once back at the truck, in a few minute I'm back in business.

One small item you can add to your tool kit is a wire cutter. Especially if you ride anywhere near fences.

Get a wad of loose barbed wire wrapped around your rear axel and your free in minutes.

Without them your spending alot of time cursing and bandaging up your hands and arms while trying to figure out how to remove that beehive around your axel.

I read somewhere that you should bring a rachet type tiedown strap to use to fix a tire if it comes off the rim. I have one... but not real sure how I'd use it ??

You put it around the tire to help push the bead up to the rim to seat it while you pump air in.

I had the bead seperate from my rim last weekend (hit a root sticking out of the side of a hill)
Only one side was off the rim so me and two friends popped the bead pretty easily with a hand pump while we pushed up on the tire to seat it. One trick you to help seat it is to put liquid soap around the tire bead. (don't forget to clean the rim first!).
