Default Difference of blade angles

This is to all you Northerners out there. What are the differences of the blade angle from the top to the bottom? The blade backdrags better if the top of the blade is tipped forward. Is that the only advantage to tipping it forward? Does the blade scrape ice/packed snow better if the top of the blade is tipped rearward?

Tilting it back doesn't do a whole lot, they're designed for pretty much optimum bite while still having the ability to "trip" if you hit a curb, or.... You might gain a little but not much. Tilting it forward isn't going to do much for back dragging either. I have several areas I need to back drag, I adjusted my angle forward thinking it would help, it didn't. Once you get a little snow piled behind the blade it wants to ride up the pile. If I would have had more adjustablity I may have made a dent but my plow only adjusts so far forward. I think one would have to adjust quite a ways to gain any back dragging ability.

The main issue with back dragging is weight, simply not enough there to hold the plow down.

Ditto! Either need to add some weight or get a downforce kit!

I have the Mibar downforce kit. The blade seems to backdrag better with it angled forward. It seems to not force the snow under the blade as bad while backdragging. I also push a lot of hardpacked snow and wanted to know if it would "dig" better to get under the hardpack if the blade was angled back. I am waiting to get my new cutting edge. If it "digs" better with the blade back I would look at fabricating up a backdrag blade with the old cutting edge.

i dont back drag. i shovel a little bit so i can either back up to that spot and push it away. i built my own plow. and im not shure of the angle. but mine seems to do a good job if it isent froze. and it still trips. iv plowed up packed snow tire tracks on tar drives. heres a pic of my plow side view.

if you want to do alota back draging. figure out how to add a edge like they do on full size truck plows on the back side of the plow. so it just drags along when going forward, but digs in when back draging

I push residential driveways as a side job. I am trying to get away from the shovel work. I pull up a garage door drop the blade and backdrag away from the door. Then spin around and push away from the door. I have been backdragging with the blade forward and it does good but it sometimes doesn't dig too well on the hardpack.

I like your idea of fab'ing the old blade on the backside of the plow to back drag. You should be able to get a good angle on it, more so than adjusting your plow allows. I would think around 45 degrees would allow for some bite into the hardpack.

Should be a pretty straight forward fab....post some pics when your done!!

i do the shoveling for 2 reasons. 1) gets me off the wheeler for a few min and gives me some exercise. 2) keeps the customers i have comeing back because i do a good job. and most evon pay extra since i do a good job and cash also. iv whent from 2 regular customers last yr to 15 customers this yr. and a few here and there. my plow paid for it self last yr. and my wheeler is almost paying for it self this yr.

i thought about adding a back drag. but i have no real need for it. but youd need to add 2 or 4 hinges to the back. one on each end and one on either side of where the push tube mounts to the plow. and weld wear bar to the hinges. notch out the center of it so it dont get in the way of the push tube frame pivit part. and add a plate under the plow frame above the oem wear bar so it dont go to far forward when backing up. again i thought about. but dont have no real need for it. plus i dont have a shop to do this at. so im outs luck anyways.

I am with you Chuck. I keep adding customers because of the job I do but I was trying to save on some of the shovel work. I scrape the hardpack with a shovel if the quad doesn't get it very well. I was trying to save on some of the shoveling. Next snow I will play with the blade angle to see if the blade angled back scrapes the hardpack better. I may try to fab up a backdrag system but that is going to be a summer project.
