The wife and I have been into ATV's for a lot of years. We always had Yamaha and Honda machines. (Big Bear, Rancher, Foreman). We started traveling a few years ago and sold all our ATV's. We are getting back into the ATV scene now and all our friends are riding Polaris Ranger RZR's. When we were riding, we gave our friends with Polaris machines a hard time because every time the group wanted to ride, the Polaris riders had theirs in the shop for repairs. I bought a RZR today. I will pick it up Thursday. I bought it with the aluminum wheels, winch, hard top, and windshield. It is in the metallic Red color.

I know it sounds a little wimpy to get the top and the windshield, but the wife and I are getting up in years, close to 70; and creature comforts when we ride in the winter sound pretty good. We really like the roll bar and think we will like the side by side ride. The wife rolled her rancher over backwards on a really steep hill a few years ago and the roll bar gives her a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I have a few questions.

1. The dealer told me the unit I bought had a 50" footprint, but it has the RZR -S accessory package. I got home and read the brochure on the unit and it says the S package has a 60" footprint. I'm going to carry it in my one ton, dually, pickup which has 50" span between the fender wells. Will the tires on the 50" RZR compress enough to make it between the fender wells?

2. Is the package I bought a good package, or should I call the dealer tomorrow and tell him to forget it cause I'm gonna stick with Honda?

3. All pro or negative comments will be appreciated.

you will not be disapoited with the RZR!!! Amazing machine and a ton of fun smooth ride lots of power and handles great!!! as far as te width, we haul ours around in the dack of my chevy 2500 with a 6.5' box!! But thats not the RZR S.

 

Yea, mine is a Chevy 3500 with the eight foot box. I know it is long enough, but I am concerned about the distance between the fender wells. It is 50" and the RZR is 50" wide. I don't know if that means 50" from spindle tip to spindle tip or if it is 50" from the outside of one tire to the outside of the other tire. I don't want to mess the aluminum wheels up on the fender wells just hauling it home from the dealer. The fender wells are also 10" high so I think I will have enough clearance for any overhang of the RZR past the wheels.

worse comes to worse ,you make a lil wooden platform-ramp thing at the fenderwells.

 

you might want to ask the dealer which model you actually got. The razr stands at 102 length by 50 wide by 69 height and the razr-s stands at 106 x 60.5 x 70.5 The width should be the vehicles widest point. I would think that the fenders would be slightly wider than the tires on the razr but not sure.

 

If you have trails with the 50" limitation go with the regular RZR. If you have wide open trails and dunes to play in the RZRs is a great machine. As someone said you could make a little ramp to get it over the wheel humps. Or get a 5.5x8 trailer for it. It's a great machine. My son is thinking of getting one.

Ted, That's great you're getting back into the sport....

RZR-S is 60+". Dealer is a fool, or a liar, or both.

Will not fit in the 50" bed of your truck.

I've heard good things about the RZR-S. They ride them a lot out west. They're not for me, but a whole lot of people love them. Go to YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. and search on RZR-S...There's a ton of cool videos. Good luck with it.

Edit: Like Moose said, if you have 50" posts to limit larger vehicle trail use, you'll be disappointed. You need to talk to locals and find out if there are 50" posts in the areas you'll be riding most. If so, I would consider not taking delivery. We have the 50" limit where I ride in southern Maine and a RZR-S would never make it though most area......also wouldn't make it across a lot of the narrow ATV bridges.

 

I checked some of the info we brought home with us and he is selling me the RZR (50" width). He just put some stuff on it like the aluminum wheels that typically come with the S. I've been trying to figure some stuff out like the paint job. The machine I'm buying has the metallic red paint job, but the Polaris brochure doesn't even list it as an option. I will call the dealer in the morning and ask some questions I didn't even know to ask when I was at the dealership. The problem is I can't just pop in and ask him because he is about 250 miles away.
