Default transmission help

hey yall driving to town on the lake, through about 6 inches on snow, started to hear a high pitch noise almost sounded like belt noise but loud, didnt think anythign of it, no problems on the way in.

on the way home though i was crusing, only going about half throttle, cause anymore was useless would jus spin

half way home, it randomly popped outta drive. put it bac started to go popped out
after that all id get is grinding, i couldnt even hold the shifter in drive it would push itself out than grind

i ended up riding 30mins in reverse, i tried adjusting the linkagen once home and now its even worst.
will pop out of drive and reverse.
so is this signs of a shot tranny or a quick fix
please help guys ! thanks

Default trans

could be a bearing or shift fork a bad gear or a bad broken detent spring.most likely your going to have to pull the trans out.

k thanks, i cant get the parts transmission out, has anyone else done this? the swing arm on the left side is bolted to the tranny so u need a huge socket to remove it? i think i might take both bikes to a mechanic.

yeah dont take the bikes in ,well unless you own a bank,i don't think a 400 is tucked any tighter in than a 500 but it came out the starter side......gotta remove the rear plastics,i did not remove anything on the swingarm, now its tight! you'll need to pry A bit in +out, keep us informed.......

So I guess its just super tight by the left swing arm bolt, we were prying with a pry bar and it was barely moving, the parts bike has nothing on it at all no plastics no motor, also how does the drive shaft come apart, do you punch one of the pins through?

Check the detent star where the shifter linkage is. That is what holds it in gear. There is also a spring that can get rusted that may break

So the detent star is one the top of the tranny? What am I checking it for? Or is it inside?
And for the drive shaft, which one is by the front housing???
