I think there have been reports of cracked rubber around the carbs that could be causing the symptoms you described...

wouldn't that give it a leaner condtion buddy had carb out to clean it but he not sure he put choke back in right......he also is having clutch problems with chugging at idle agfter warm up.....top speed is only 45 mph and engine breaking up. now clutch sheeve cracked so looking for new clutch for it before we go into carb.....maybe clutch causing all his problems at top end so I told him 1 thing at a time We were heading towards the one way ebs bearing as it seemed to be hanging up after it warmed up cause it rotated smoothly after we cleaned both clutches but after warm up it rotated hard causing machine to chugg at idle......after it cooled it rotated smoothly again but then the sheeve had a crack in it......i'll re post after we get a new/used clutch on it and try again

If you can find the newer primary from an 06-7-or 8 800 they are a lot better clutch, so is the roller secondary better, there was a recall on those machines for the breather tube that goes from the valve cover to the air box, the original has a filter in it that gets condensation in it and freezes, then cracks, causing a vacume leak, the replacement has no filter.
