I just wish Yamaha and some of the others in the US would make a 2-up machine like CanAm, Polaris, and AC have.

I like the 2-UP machines especially the X2's but I just keep thinking death and dismemberment on trails we ride on Hatified and McCoy (Steep rocky-rutted) etc. It would really be cool to see some vids on folks riding those trails with an X2 to see how well if performs.

X2s are fantastic on the steep hills. The longer wheelbase is fantastic. I'm not sure but I think they may be geared differently than the regular machines. It seems like I had more low end than my son's ATP 500 HO, and my buddies' Sportsmen 500s. They all have a higher top speed than I do by a few mph.

I was down at the rockhouse trail on my 07 x2 500. and it did a great job, met one other guy with an x2 500 and a x2 sp550.

I did trail 95 (double diamond) from the top to the bottom and it did great with the longer wheelbase, also climbing is second to none. now my cousin had a vinson 500 and that thing was trouble going down trail 95, had to hang on to the rear rack a few times so it wouldn't tip

but riding two people down there it stunk. you need a side by side if you want to ride two people, it just doesn't soak up the bumps like a sxs

Right, I wouldn't think carrying a second passenger especially on H&M toughest trail system like ROCKHOUSE would be possible. Good to know how well it performed in 1-up mode. Would you say that it has superior handling of the steep rutted trails? I agree about the downhilling b/c of the weight in the rear/ADC etc.

Good thread guys!

the longer wheelbase is great uphill or downhill. but can't tell you it is superior. it is stable and never gets a tippy feel. however what you gain in one area you lose in another and steering suffers. trying to do switch backs down there is terrible so its hard to ride at a fast pace knowing your quad can't turn like a regular sportsman. after all is said and done I wouldn't trade my x2, the advantage of two seats, bed is just to much to give up at camp or hunting.

Good info. yea I agree you can't beat the X2 for its bed-utility, would be nice to have moving my hunting gear, tree stands etc. I probably wouldn't have to have my poly cart for most tasks.

Cheers,

Yes the X2 works best on steep rocky trails like the H/M.
