ATV newb looking for some help.
I'm about to move to a 26 acre wooded property. I'm thinking an ATV will be handy for lots of jobs and for some fun riding through the woods. Work-wise, I'm hoping to use it to plow the driveway (3/8 mile long and 10' wide)...we'll be in the mountains of SW VA, so we'll get snow for sure, but not a ton. I will probably also need it to help move my aluminum car hauler around the driveway area (1100lbs or so empty) Other than that, probably just hauling some things around for misc tasks.
4WD and auto tranny are a must
FI is preferred (I think)
Saturday, I'm going to look at this:
2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI ATV
I'm thinking that should do the trick for me...what do you guys think?
How's the price seem?
Are there particular things I should be looking at or asking about when I go check it out?
thanks!

Not sure how far South of VA you are located but give Harold at Ridersville (#1
Polaris Dealership/(304) 258-2282) a call. He is located in Berkley Springs, WVA. He has the best prices, at cost around. Can't go wrong with a SP500. Not sure what your price range is but the newer XP's may suit your fancy, but a regular SP500 will be great! I think my friend paid $6300 OTD (HO-EFI model) for his and that was his 07. Check out the 2010 models, Harold will want to push them off the floor, and give great prices. But he also sells used models too, better than Craig's list, ya never know what you are going to end up with?
For your plow req. stay away from the Polaris Glacier 2, it has lots of issues, do a search on this forum and many will tell ya to go with Country Plow or something else. I have the G2 and already I see its issues. Hasn't bent up on me yet though, like you only seasonal snow I live here in MD, a hop over.
Best wishes on your purchase adventures!

welcome to the forum. that 500 would be a good all around work and play wheeler for sur. the trail is about the max weight you want to be hauling in low range although it will haul more it's just the tongue weight you have to worry about. maybe talk them down on the price a little more.

Nice looking wheeler but seems a bit over-priced. Can get low mile, loaded 800's here(07/08) with a plow for @ $5000. Big thing to look for used is maintenance records and how clean it is top to bottom, inside and out. 200 miles and it looks pretty clean and dealer maintained. I agree with staying away from the Glacier 2 plows and you can pick up a Glacier 1 set-up pretty reasonable(I can attest that they are bulletproof). Check the dealers because I know new overstock 09 800's here are seling for $6200 so a 500 should be less. 500 would be a great machine for what you are planning on using it for.
