That's probably what it was, some electronic module. It's a 2006 Sportsman 500, warranty was only good for 6 months.

If it was the ECM there is NO time limit as this is a safety bulletin issued and Polaris was to replace with NO cost to owner. You might call Polaris and see why you were charged and some money may be due back to you! OPT

so i have a similar problem with my 08 500 ho carb. Engine got hot with no fan...however providing +12v to the fan directly will work. I did unplug the temp sensor and the fan runs all the time while reading hot on the dash..i ran it this way to get by for the wknd....do i have the same problem being that i unplug the sensor and it works??

Default fan not running

I would say you have a different problem. My relay was bad, and went open under a load. It you pull the sensor and it runs, your relay is good. I would say you have a temp sensor bad, or maybe part of the ECM.
good luck, and I am guessing some here will have better answers than me

hey...old thread but thought i'd ask:

2009 sportsman 800 - fan was not working so i pulled it out and hooked it directly to the battery by sticking bare wire into the 2 plug holes. Still doesn't turn. that's how you test it, right? only lasted 1800 miles.

Fans can go out same as any other electrical part. Yes that's a way to test one. Check ebay for Spal 11" fans. spal 11" fans | eBay Or the Spal site. No sense in paying 215 bucks for an oem fan from the dealer.
