I have a 2500lb winch on my sportsman, today while letting some cable out, it took a second to come on. Then when I tried to make the line go in I heard a clicking noise from the back where all of the wires are attached. The line would finally go in after hitting the switch 2 or 3 times. It would start slow then get going.I was wondering if the solenoid is going bad? Have any of you fellas had this happen?

 

Check all your connections before assuming, but it does sound like the contactor is going bad. The contactor on my warn 2500 did exactly as you describe for a while until it just gave out.

 

Was it a Warn winch? There is a recall on some of them Warn Industries - 2006 Recall And Replacement Notice: Contactor

 

sounds like the contactor(where all the wires are hooked too) is going bad or a loose connection or needs to be cleaned.

 

Definitely want to check if it's on the recall list! I know a guy who had one and it arced in his garage and ignited some flammables. Lost the garage, everything in it(wheeler, 3 cycles, tools, etc) and almost got his house.
