You just pull it out, some are tuff. worst comes to worst try this method. YouTube - Polaris Sportsman CV axle removal (Redneck Version)

No buying a CV separately that I know of, you buy the whole axle.

I use a slide hammer on some, with some penetrating oil and enough force they will come out, you can get the complete axle for around $100 bucks, call the cv-man 1-800-338-2326,

No I am not sure. It is not obvious if there is one but I will check again. Does anyone else ever seen a roll pin holding the U joint on?

OK your mixing me up ,I thought you wanted to get the axle out of your front diff? There is no U joint on the axle just CV joints. The axle is held in the front diff by a compression ring/clip it just pull out after so much force is applied.

Yes there is a U joint on mine. see attached picture. I am wondering if there is a roll pin that has to be taken out of the U joint first. I will take a closer look tonight.

I thought the the 05s had a CV on both ends, no matter that Ujoint end is held in by the same commpression clip as any other ATV made.

When you buy your new axle it may have a CV joint on each end now like this. OEM motorcycle and ATV parts from Honda, Yamaha & Polaris – Cycle Parts Warehouse

SEE the compression ring part #1 ,thats what holds it in. They call it a CIRCLIP.

The picture doesn't appear to be an '05. I can see the roll pin in the picture, right at the 3 o'clock position, between the u-joint and diff housing.

Yes,thats true, but if the new replacement Axle P# 1380234 has two CV joints on each end he will have to pull the whole U joint yoke and spline out of the diff not just part of it. May want to talk to your dealer about that. If not does the new axle come with a new ujoint already on it? Part #13 below is the old set up like on my 2001 P#1380119.http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...2001&fveh=5559

Even the 2004 I thought show a cv at each end.

Here is a link to the replacement 2005 1380234 axle. OEM motorcycle and ATV parts from Honda, Yamaha & Polaris – Cycle Parts Warehouse

This Must be your set up, see it still has the compression circlip #1 that pulls out.
