Exclamation 05 polaris sportsman 500 cooling fan

hi, wasnt on in a while but now i have a problem. My cooling fan on my polaris runs but it grinds and such. I took it or forced it apart and there was all water and mud and corrosion inside of the motor. Also the brushes on the motor had broke in half and they were lying in the motor casing. So i need advice. Should i buy a new polaris fan for $197 or should i buy a jegs universal 11" fan for $60 and try it. I sorta think i should buy a original polaris one just to be safe and not to have to worry in water. So please any kind of info is helpful. Also i had also put a new bearing in the motor last year and the bearing is still good.

THANKS, Polaris Man With Issues

Just had the same thing on my 04 500. Polaris replacement was $180.00 and this fix was $80.00 + shipping.
Look on the fan motor it was most likely made by SPAL USA SPAL USA, ((800) 345-0327) get the part number off the old fan and have them cross it. The fan you will get from them may not be the exact one for your ATV but the motor will be the same. Just take the new motor and put it in the old fan housing using everything but the old motor. You will need to install the old wire connections on the new motor but with some good crimp connectors and heat shrink from Radio Shack, making sure its water tite you will be fine. Good luck

Look on ebay under atv parts for polaris fan, you can order a direct replacement, Spal fan for around $100 bucks

Spal makes the fan, My Canadian dealer wanted $360. I got a new one off Ebay for $65! Exact same fan right down to the model number.

i bought one of those cheapy universal fans from jegs about a year ago for mine. was whisper quiet when new,now it starting to make a lil noise.for the price it was a tough decision,in my opinion there is no waterproof motor.
keep all your wiring as stock as you can(in case you decide to go back to the s-pal style). use heat shrink fittings and dielectric grease for good trouble free connections

Take the old Fan off ,read the Spal model number then order that same fan directly from Spal SPAL USA for $80 ,not $197 from your dealer with his extra $117 mark up.

There Is no Model number (Not Part Number) on your old fan? In my case I took the old fan out and seen a Spal model Number "VA07-AP/C" then when to the Spal site and found it ,with its Spal P# ,301000521 then I new its the right one.
