I have had the 400Ls and the fun factor is worth the rebuilds.Plus once you get the stock piston out and have Wiesco in you can get a bunch of miles out of it by keeping the air filter clean and counter balance oil clean. On the 2strokers I like to run Polaris blue non synthetic oil.4strokers the 0w40 Polaris is the ONLY way to go.

The 400 engine is tough and the Weisco pistion will last alot longer than stock. It is a matter of preference between that machine and a sportsman. The sportsman is heavier, quieter, holds value better and has more ground clearance. Pretty close in speed but the two stroke is slightly faster. The 2000 year Explorer had a headlight pod but the 2001 elimnated that feature. Simply a personal preference between the two stroke and four.

On the other hand, if you modify the 400 it is a SCREEMER. Contact Ritter cycle and he can make a fire breathing monster that will smoke a sportsman like a cheap cigar.
