I have a question about my grandsons Polaris Sportsman 90. It has a new battery which was fully charged when I installed it and it started right up with the electric start but after running it for a while he shut it of and tried to start it later in the day and it would not turn over. It did start right up with the kick starter and ran fine but if you check the voltage at the battery it shows that it is only charging at about 11.7 volts and if you turn the lights on it only reads about 7.4 volts. Could anyone tell me if this is a problem with the stator or the voltage regulator or something else and how I can check the stator and regulator. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank You

 

i would start by checking the voltage regulator to make sure it's not the isue and check the connection as well.

 

I would say the stator is bad.Regulators seldom crap out

 

Other models have a small rectifyer located on the left hand side just in front of the radiator Grill. Had the same problem with a 500 replaced the recifyer and all was good
