02 Sportsman 700 clutch kit and rollers
#1
I have an 02 sportsman 700 that runs great for me, It has a white primary spring and 800 exhaust header and intake tube and jetted carb. it has about 800 miles on it and i would like to put a clutch kit in it to try and optimize its sport trail performance. Other than bottom end it seems a little weaker than it should be, only 63 mph top end and a little sluggish accelerating at mid speed. It doesn't seem like its shifting out quite wright. I am going to put an EPI clutch kit on it. I have two questions, what hole combination on the secondary movable to Helix spring? And I noticed in the parts microfisch it has rollers not buttons on the secondery. Do the rollers wear out and should I replace them?

I don't think you'll see much more than 63 with that machine and usually if you add a clutch kit it you will either lose low end grunt or top speed. EPI has great customer service I would call them and they will get you going in the right direction.

Do you know anything about the secondary rollers and secondary spring setting? I replaced the buttons in my buddies SP400 and it was like day and night, just wondering the rollers go bad in the 02 700

Just to let everyone know as I did not get any replies on this portion of my question. Sportsman's with EBS do not have the holes drilled in the helix, the spings are flat on both ends unlike the traditional secondary. EPI tech support was very good, as I called them after purchasing an EPI sport/utility clutch kit for my atv

Sammydogs-give us an update as the how the clutch kit changed the machine. I have an '03 600 and have wondered how the kit would effect everything....
