Polaris 550XP throttle

Polaris 550XP throttle
Hey all,
I was riding the other day and my knee hit the throttle causing it to break. The part that you push with your thumb broke just after it makes the 90 degree turn to the right. Apparently these new ones are plastic. Called polaris and they said I have to buy the entire assembly ($60)because the thumb piece is not sold separately. My questions are:
Are they sold separately aftermarket?
Will a thumb safer type product work or is there not enough left on the throttle to attach it.
Will a throttle off an older Sportsman work.
Please help and thank you for your time,
Brandon.

I ran into the same situation with the hand brake lever, it's not sold seperately either.
Can't help you with the after market idea, but they make some very good epoxy adhesives that may work for you. If there is enough material, you can try drilling both pieces and inserting a roll pin between the parts before the epoxy goes on for added strength.
Bottom line on this one, is you can't get too far without the throttle, so you might just have to fork out the $60, no matter how much it hurts.
Good luck.

Several after market suppliers for that part. Easy to replace but check part # it was different on my 850 than my 500 because of the ADC. I thought about epoxy but when it broke I had enough left to get back to camp, broke the same as yours, but if it broke again above the last place I might be left walking 20 miles. I think I used Bike Bandit and it cost $43.
The thumb lever is the same as others and just a screw on the inside holding it on.
