Default Inner front cvjoint removal

Merry Xmas to me this morning! I got a present from my ATV before even heading out for a morning hunt! Got my ATV, a 800 Sportsman 2008 out of the trailer, got on the trail and started to hear the dreaded sound of metal chewing in the front. Diagnostic was short when I saw that the upper cv boot was twisted.

Before I had to get ready to receive for Xmas, I had some time to remove the axle off and found that the inner cage in the joint had broken in three pieces. The CV housing is still in the differential. Before quitting, I tried to pull it out of the differencial with a prybar but it did not seem to want to budge.

Before I continue with that method and crack the housing of the differential, is it the right method? If not what is the right method to remove it? From what I can see, there is only a "C" clip holding it in place.

Thanks, for your responses. I`ll wait until the Polaris dealer re-opens after xmas, and order the parts needed to mend it back together... Ouch.. I am sure|!

spray around where it goes into diff real good with penetrating oil, let sit awhile and usually a good sharp yank on the axle will get it out, I too have used a slide hammer on some of the tough ones, they can be a real pain, you can buy a complete axle from the cv man on ebay cheaper than you can buy the one cv joint from polaris, or call 1-800-338-2326

Just can wait for an order coming from the States. I am from Canada, I am 56 and classified as a permanently disabled person because of my legs. This ATV is my crutches when ever and where ever I go off the regular roads. I will bit the bullet this time, but will look at having spare parts on my garage shelf. a Polaris CV boot retails at 60.00 CDN at my dealer!

I will soak it with liquid wrench. if it doesn't want to come out, I will just drill 2 opposite holes in the CV bell, put a bolt accross with a lenght of chain and just yanked it out!

Thnaks all for the help.

I'm East of Ottawa. Thanks for the offer! I have put a call in to friend and he will come over to help me out tomorrow. Beer promises works wonder! Just kidding he is a very good friend.

It is just that in order to work on at that height I either have to sit down or lie down on the garage floor and when I go to get up, most of the time, I can`t do it by myself and I end up calling the wife for help . Every time time I do, it seems the nagging gets longer.

Thanks again! Too bad our Province is bigger than some Countries!

To bad were so far apart I would have happily come over to lend a hand, especially knowing there was beer involved. Hope you get it all worked out and advice as you know is only a message away.

Got it ot with my friend tonight with a puller hammer. I now understand the need to soak with liquid wrench! Talk about rust in there!

That went well, but i should have ordered from the cv joint guy! I place an order with my Polaris dealer, thinking it would come faster. Turns out, I may get it next Friday, but it is not a hard delivery date because of the Holidays.

Brace yourself.... 210.00 before taxes for the joint and it doesn't even come with the boot. the boot is an extra 53.00, This will cost me well over 300.00 when taxes are added!

Can someone tell me how much this repair would cost if the parts was bought from a US Polaris dealer? I have a hunch, my Canadian dealer does not factor in the parity of the dollar....

Well I`m not sure what they would want in the US to do the lob but you can get a complete shat on e-bay for around $110.00 you would have to install it.
