Here is what I have done thus far, we trimmed the bracket and trimmed the edges of the foot-well, I will be testing to see if it still rubs this weekend with the mods and 26.5" Pitbull Rocker tires. I also softened the suspension settings back to the middle level for initial testing.

Have you had any problems with the fronts rubbing while turning since they are wider? I was thinking about getting some bighorns.

Did the modifications work? I have a touring coming in this weekend and I have some 27" Grim reapers that have to go on this machine.

Haven't been able to do much testing as the trails are just starting to open in parts of the state, ground frost is finally starting to come out. Preliminary testing indicates that the 26.5" tires still rub a bit but that should be completely eliminated once my back-ordered 25.5" Rockers finally show up........ they estimate another 30+ days for the tires still.

I would say you will most likely run into issues with the 27" Reapers unless they run super small.

Well I have finally had the opportunity to put some quality seat time in with the new 25.5" Pitbull Rockers on my 2011 850 Touring. I spent the past weekend riding some quality trails that were a little more technical in nature and allowed me some good testing with the tire size change and I am happy to report NO RUB issues with the new setup. It looks like the 25.5" Pitbulls were made for the XP Tourings. I also noticed I got a little more pep back in the machine with the weight savings over the larger size. The machine also stayed pretty clean with the 10" wide tires not slinging too much at you. I should also mention that I had my rear shocks set on the middle setting.

That being said I am looking to step away from the Touring style as I am very disappointed with the seat comfort as a 1-up machine, frankly the seat is too short for my taste and I feel like I am constantly being pushed forward, especially on down-hill grades. Unfortunately this outweighs everything else I really like about the machine with the longer wheel base. I am looking to go back to a Non-Touring 850 XP, I think we are going to replace the Touring with a 2012 850 Hunter Edition. The Touring will be getting traded off or listed on CL in the next couple weeks. I'm looking to be on the new machine before our trip to WV in November.
