trailblazer pull rope broke help!
#1
I broke the pull rope on my trailblazer in the middle! Recoil is fine! Just need a replacement rope and handle. Where can I find one without buying the whole recoil unit? I know how to rewind it as I broke the end off once before. This really sucks because my electric start has never worked!

Just take off the recoil, and get some good quality nylon braided rope from Menards or your local hardware store, even Walmart carries it. Wind up the recoil and run the rope through it with a very tight knot in the tail end (you can even run a lighter over the knot to melt it and seal it together). let the recoil pull the rope back, then pull it out and measure it to see if it is long enough, then cut to length, put through the handle, with another tight knot, and you are set. I dont know the exact diameter rope to use, I just did this last weekend on my Polaris sled, took all of about 1/2 hour total, r/r recoil, put in new rope, and tying off on pull handle.

I'll give that a try. It didnt look like my handle was removable? maybe it is. Ive had to make it a bit shorter once before because the last 3" broke. so i know how to rewind it and such.

A lot of recoil handles have a tab on the top that can be pried off to access the rope inside, then you can push the rope up, and grab it to pull it out. If it is a solid cast piece (pretty unlikely) you can go down to your local hardware store or implement dealer and get a replacement pull handle pretty cheap. But I'm betting your handle will come apart somehow to allow rope changing. Its good to have a little extra rope on there, that way if you break it, it may still be long enough to use once you rewind the recoil spring. Thats why I replaced my sled pull rope, got tired of the short pull from using a "retied" rope that had broken a couple times, now I can pull it all the way to the end of the seat if I want to, and it starts a lot better, too, with the bigger pull I can give it now.

Your problem will be making it waterproof. I bought one from the dealer rope and handle made together that fits the nipple on the engine. It was about 25.00. A little high but cheaper than filling that side of motor ith water. Tony T

I guess thats why your electric start has never worked then you don't have electric start .

I dont know the exact layout of the recoil housing, but maybe you could rig up a check valve on the bottom of it to drain water out, and not allow water in, that way you could use a different pull starter, or maybe rig up a rubber bushing that would seal up the handle better.
