Default New Polaris Owner w/ questions

Hi, I am a new owner. I (oh let the jokes begin) have never been on a quad, im a street guy. But a neighbor of mine who is one of those off-road fanatics has about every offroad toy you could own sold me a 2006 trailblazer 250 with about 15 hours on the clock for 800. Since it was so cheap, I thought what the heck and bought it, and I have ridden it a couple of times to just get used to it, and I really like it. But I have a couple of questions. Again, pardon the complete and utter ignorance.

1. When the fuel is in any position other than "off" there is a small leak at the ****. Normal? easily fixable?

2. The tranny seems to be leaking, now the previous owner said it never did that before, and I believe him becuase hes about as **** as you could get with taking care of his stuff, but being the genius I am, I checked all the fluids and the tranny was low so I added some tranny fluid, if you add too much, is there a drainage tube for overfill? If not, what could this be?

3. Being a street guy, one of the first things I ever do is replace the air filter, but with this being offroad, should I stick with the oiled foam filter he had in there? or swap it out for the KN?

4. I did a lot of searching on exhausts on here and read alot of posts, but one thing that confuses me is that I dont understand if the exhaust is one piece, or if there are different "pieces" for the exhaust you can buy comming off the block all way to the tailpipe. When you buy an exhaust do you buy the whole thing? or do you buy it in sections like a car exhaust?

THANKS!

Welcome to the forums.

Look at the hoses to make sure there aren't any cracks that would allow leaks. Could be a bad petcock valve, if it is, fairly easy to replace.

Don't remember an overflow tube on my 03. Only takes about 13oz of fluid for it to be full.

Filters are more of a personal choice. IMO If the one that is in there looks good, leave it till you need one. I've had both and neither one gave me any problems.

The 250 blazer was one piece. The 400 was a two piece unit. Some aftermarket (RCR or Aaen) have two piece performance pipes. Obviously, if you go with one of those you'd need both pieces. But the head pipes have different performance levels you can choose from.

I'm sure others will help you out with advice that may have missed anything I have posted.

welcome to the forum and congrads on a good buy. the air filter(unless they have changed since 2000) should be a paper filter w/ a outer dust cover. if you are going to go to an after market exhaust(and by the looks it is 2 pieces, but only a small curved header pipe w/ the rest being one piece back) you should put a k&n filter for better air flow to help the bike breath w/ the bigger flow exhaust. the fuel petcock should not be leaking in any direction it's in and maybe a new one is in order, unless maybe it has dirt that got in to it when being turned. not sure about the tranny having a overflow drain, but shouldn't be leaking in any case if it is leaking do not go into water as it will get in side the transmission and do harm. imo

as for the tranny, replace the O ring on the dipstick, see if that stops the leak
