Question 1999 Sportsman 500 with 6,100 miles? Do I buy it?

First off, I want to thank you guys for how helpful you've been with my previous questions. I really appreciate all the help.

As I said, it's a 1999 Polaris Sportsman 500 with 6,100 miles, but for only $2000 or best offer (so probably $1800!).
The Craigslist ad says "This is a 1999 Polaris Sportsman 500 Quad. It is in excellent running condition. Newer Mudlite Tires 98%, Double Gun holder, Extra passenger seat with storage, Kolpin handguards, Camo seat cover $2000 or best offer".
After emailing him, he also says "No I was not the first owner when I got it it needed a couple things done to
it,starter, tires, rebuilt the carburator, and a new cv joint in the rear.Know it
is in good shape.I used it for 2 years mainly for hunting"

What do you guys think? Is the mileage too high? Is it a good buy for the price, accessories, and all the recent work done to it? What do you think?

Thanks so much to anyone who answers. I appreciate the input so much

If you could find one a year or two later, you could get the HO and will have cv drive shafts instead of u-joint drive shafts (prone to excessive wear) plus would have strengthened cam which the 99 and earlier models were prone to failures,BUT depends on shape of 99 machine, maintenance,(complete repair history if possible, may have had cam replaced?) and your pocket book. I would look for a 2001 or newer with less miles.

Look for a 2001 or newer so you get the HO (high output) model which started in 2001.

The HO (2001 and newer) Sportmans have 25% more power than the non-HO (2000 and older).

The simple answer is no. Way to many miles. Also, I have a 2000 sp 500 and my brother in law has a 2001 h.o.. His machine is a little quicker of the line and thats about it. On the trails there is no difference.

look for a newer one as mentioned for the reasons mentioned. may be a little more money but would be worth it in the long run.

I agree we also have both, the H.O starts showing its power in the mid range but really shows it in the high power band when your at 40+ mph, but in the lower speeds where 90% of the riding is done I can,t tell them apart.

The H.O get 15 miles less to at tank of gas then our Non H.O, I can tell you that.

SIX against ,none for the 99 model! That should tell you something! Get a later model for ALL above reasons! OPT PS: I never liked em for u-joint problems and replaced too many cams!
