Default Sportsman XP 850 tire size decision

I'm looking for some input from people who have upgraded the tires on their sportsmans. I am looking to either get a set of 25.5" or 26.5" pitbulls, but am having trouble deciding. I'm wondering what type of change in stability people have noticed when moving to bigger tires? I would love the extra clearance that the bigger tires would give, but am worried that it would make the machine noticeably less stable. I do ride in more off camber situations than muddy situations, but if the difference isn't too big, would prefer to get the extra clearance while I am getting new tires.

I realize that the larger tires will probably require me to get a clutch kit.

Thanks!

The 25.5 Pit Bulls will not require a clutch kit. I hear they measure 26". Those are my next tire. Incredible reviews!

Yeah, sorry, I should have clarified, I realize the 26.5's (measure 27" apparently) would require a clutch kit. That doesn't really turn me off at all since I have been kicking around doing that anyways. Just weighing the pros/cons of clearance/mudding vs stability/climbing/off-camber riding.

I just put on a set of 27" mud lite xtr

I don't think you'll need a clutch kit with the power of the 850

The stability to me is not that noticeably different

Honestly with the g-damn over zealous guys and there advice on clutch kits... Bro you dont need a clutch kit if you throw a 26 on... Clutch kit will never hurt, but in reality its over rated

I have 27'' mudlite xtr's on my 850 and don't have a clutch kit. I think you would be fine with any tire in that height range. If you put them on aftermarket rims it will widen the stance quite a bit.

26.5" Pitbull Rockers are HEAVY. They bite like no other, I have about 350 miles on mine after yesterday, put 1 plug in towards the end of the day from a very small pin-sized hole in the side-wall. Could have been worse with all the rocks and downed trees we crossed.
