Default 05 700 EFI fuel problems

So my buddie sunk his 700 BAD!!!!! I towed him home pulled the plugs emptied the airbox cranked tye water out of the cylinders changed the oil like 7 times but the machine seemed to run fine. Now he is having a problem after about 5 or 10 minutes of run time in sputters and dies. After 10 minutes shut off or so it runs fine again for 5 or ten minutes.

So when it began sputtering this time I sprayed starting fluid on the air filter just as it was about to die and it will run fine while slowly spraying the starting fluid. I pulled the silver fuel filter and blew it our, it seems fine. The fuel pump is running but while its suputtering if you push on the shraider valve on the fuel rail some air comes out of it.

Could his fuel pump be bad? Has anyone experienced EFI fuel problems after sinking a 700/800 sportsman?

Any advice would help. BTW where the hell is the fuel pump?

+1 on the gas for water. since you said adding fluid made it run when you squirted it i would say most likely not any electrical (spark) issue. imo

starting fluid(ether) is real real hard on piston rings an valve guides,..washes the oil away,...an shouldnt be used less it is only way to get a motor to fire,..i wont even use it in diesel motors in -30 below that its main purpose for!!

I would also say water in the fuel. I would drain it and see if it helps. I had the same problem on my 500.

Gas tank has been drained and new fuel added, Tank has not been filled yet only like a gallon at a time added. I have read a couple of other threads that say the fuel pumps are problematic, but it does seem to be running (hummmmmm) There is some fuel preasure when it dies just doesnt seem like the 40lbs as its suppossed to be.

How hard is it to pull the gas tank, looks like a B!tch?

seem's weird that it would had started after the sinking but it could be the pump going bad as alot did have that issue. never pulled the tank but many have and said it wasn't too bad. the pump should be running when you try to start it back up after it dies. imo

You do have to partially remove(or just remove) the front cab up enough to get to the fuel pump line and electrical connector. Once they are disconnected, just pull the tank back and out. OPT
