oil in airbox on xp850
#1
does anyone know of a problem with oil blowing into the airox on the 850s. I heard a baffle warps in the valve cover and causes the oil to blow into the airbox . Anyone heard of this and if so any info would help i am looking at buying a 2011 850 thanks

i agree alot of the forums are plauged with reports of oil in the air box i own 2 850's and only one time did i find a splatter of oil on my air filter and it was my 11 model not sure what i did to cause it but i am a little nervous now. i do and always will like polaris but i am tired of these pcv/oil in the airbox issues i mean come on how hard can it possibly be to fix this my fear is polaris is plain *** to cheap to do what they need to do so they keep trying to give us bandaids instead of a proper fix i hope they get it rigt soon

I lost about 3/4 of a quart of oil from the motor that went into my air box. It smoked so bad the guys behind me had to stop because they could not see the trail. Read my other posts..............I am very frustrated with polaris right now and I am on my 6th Polaris ATV the the newest one has all the issues. 2010 Sportsman 850 XP. I am starting the think the XP stands for Xtreme Piece of SH*%.

I found lots of oil in my 850's airbox as well, but I found an easy solution. I simply added a "T" that I made from copper pipe into the line that goes to the airbox. I located it right behind the sidepanel and put a small filter atop it. point the top up. I also took the breather top off and put a piece of Scotchbrite pad rolled up to cover the inside walls of the breather, but left the center open to drain any oil that might accumulate there. I did this after I put a new improved breather and valve cover that was assembled at the factory in and didn't solve the problem. My theory is that the small felt pad that covers the outside of the breather isn't stopping the oil that gets by the baffle and coupled with a high vaccuum inside the airbox at high RPM that sucks the oil up the breather pipe right into the airbox. After several fast rides of 30 or so miles, there is no oil in the airbox. Good luck.
