99 400 Scrambler Hard To Put In Gear?
#1
I've got an old 99 400 2-stroke Scrambler 4x4.
It's always made a slight "grinding" noise when you put it in gear, esp forward. Idle is set properly as well.
So I get it out to check it and get it ready for the summer, and now when you put it in gear it REALLY grinds loud going into gear.
I've never worked on it (luckily) and don't have a manual. Ques is: is there some type of adjustment I can make to alleviate this?
Thanks in advance.

The gear shift is pretty simple enough, but I would check the belcrank(aluminum arm) on the gear case to make sure its tight and not stripped. Plus you can place in neutral, loosen the linkage lock nuts and turn the linkage until the shift lever is centered in the rubber slot. If rpms aren't too high and it still grinds, could be internal trans problem. You might also change gear case fluid if it hasn't been done in a while.Use Polaris AGL. Also does it try to creep in gear?? could be a belt/clutch problem causing hard shifting/grinding? OPT
