Default Quick polaris picture request

Hey all, I don't keep my popo at my house so I wanted to know if someone could take a quick picture or respond if they know the answer.

I need a picture of the internal connections for the 12V power outlet. I don't want to splice the actual wire, but instead make a splitter for my GPS power adapter (hardwire box). I don't remember what size blade is in there so if you know or can take a picture, or can measure it for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Have the same problem with the 12V adaptor coming out when riding and losing power. May be easier just to splice them though.

If you can determine what gauge wire it has going to it you can use what's called a "tap in splice". It requires no cutting of the wires and you can get them in waterproof also. If you can't find the waterproof ones you can use the regular and use a dielectric gel. They are very simple to use just slide the new wire in one side, slip it over the wire on your power outlet and mash the little metal clip down with pliers then close the cover and you're done! Don't forget the gel to keep the water out.

Can't you just piggy back off the live feed? I did this for my indicator relay and so far so good.

p.s. I'm certainly no auto electrician

jmuddin, those tap-in-splice things are iffy I've seen them tap-n-slice, just as much as they splice. Plus, If I ever want to remove my extra feed, I dont want to have a degraded cable there.

Moose, the 12V adapter does work, however, what if I need to plug in something else? xD

James, I'm lost on what you are calling the live feed, are you talking about tapping the battery directly?

Sorry I meant the feed that comes from one of the front fuses to the 12v outlet. Maybe I have missunderstood you.

Inside the instument panel there are two spades on the end of the 12v socket, a fused live and an earth. I piggy backed off the feed spade for my indicator relay.

Hope this helps

James

Really? I've never had one slice a wire in two. Either way, you could run a new fused line from the battery since is for a power supply/holder for something it shouldn't hurt anything for it to be hot all the time. Or you could just use the tap in splices and when you don't want it wired up anymore(???) you could just leave the tap on there. Or find a wire that is key on hot and figure out how to get to the wire inside the insulation. Just my

I think you guys are missing my goal here. I want the bike to be 100% stock if I ever decide to undo this. My idea was to be able to make my own Y cable, unplug the existing power and ground on teh 12V plug, plug my splitter in, and have both devices there.

----factory plug 12V----~~~my Y cable~~~Cig/12V outlet
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\~~~~~~GP S power

and repeat for ground cable.

Thanks for the input so far though, at least I found a group willing to discuss this ;D

not sure how the power wires hookup to the power outlet, but if it's a male spade on the outlet they have a female spade with a piggy-back male connector that you could run to the gps and use the female in the wiring harness to connect to the piggyback and connect that to the outlet. You wouldn't be cutting/splicing anything and you would be able to remove it with no traces of it ever being there. That's ONLY if the outlet uses spade terminals. If it doesn't use spade terminals you could always splice in a spade set and use the piggyback from there and it would be removable without notice. Other than that, I'm about out of suggestions... I've been doing automotive wiring for several years and can't think of anything else that would allow you to remove an add-on other than what has been suggested or maybe soldering to the terminals and reheating the solder to remove it when you don't want it anymore.

That's what I'm after, I just wanted someone to take a picture of that or measure it for me as I know there are several different size spade connectors.
