Default 2011 sportsman 500 idle issues

I have had my polaris for 2 1/2 months now and have had it back to the shop 3 times and adjusted it myself 4 times now. I noticed that after a couple hours of riding the idle drops from ~1200 down to ~1050 when it does this its hard to start and the choke does nothing for it I have to play with the throttle a bit to get it to start. how can I correct this? do I need to keep taking it in to the shop and have it adjusted every other day just for a record? any help would be appreciated

Is the idle cable still held in place level under the carb by the spring wire? These will often break and idle will change as cable just sits on to of the starter? Plus do you have only about 1/8" play in throttle lever? One other option is to remove the spring on the adjuster going into the carb and replacing it with a little longer one which will hold more pressure on the idle setting (a GOOD hardware store like ACE should be able to help) Have had customers do this. I've read a lot on another forum about some of the idle screws backing out over time while you ride, particularly in the 2010 models. I can only imagine that this problem will resurface on the 2011's. I've also read that this is a warrantied repair (provided that you are still under warranty) and should be replaced by the dealer without any charge. Not sure if this is your problem, just passing along what I've seen. Good luck.

with it being bought first week in May it is still under warranty the next thing I am looking to do is the 3 headlight MOD if anyone can help me with that I would appreciate it

Glad you found it,but see if the dealer can use a stronger way of securing the cable, like a vinyl covered vent holder strap instead that can be twisted around the cable! He can still claim warranty on the oem part! If they install the same wire holder it will break again!! Almost all that I had that came in for any kind of service had the spring holder break and I didn't replace them, I JUST improved on the holder! OPT

My 08 idle cable spring broke also I think the first year . I just put a tie strap on it and have never touched it again . You should not need your choke for starting unless it's cold ( like winter ) I never use mine I always think why is it even there

How many miles on your belt? I changed my belt after 2000 miles and the machine seem to spring back to life like it was new even though the old belt still look good to me.
