You have posed an interesting question Andy.

There has been some research done on 4 stroke pipes in this forum but not a great deal.

Since the Mikuni CV carburetor used on the Sportsman utilizes air box atmospheric pressure to operate at it's optimum efficiency, it can only be assumed that Polaris 500 four stroke exhaust system utilizes a given amount of reversionary pressue in its engine power curve characteristics.

If you were to go to the Polaris ATV site map and look at the muffling canisters for the various four stroke models you will find that they all have a different part #. The Sportsman, HO Scrambler, Magnum 325/500 all use a different silencer. From this we could deduce that the silencer is a desgined integral part of a proven power curve for each powertrain application.

Something out there may be better than the stock exhaust cannisters. But... without access to a dyno and unlimited resources; it could be an expensive learning curve. The resale value of a used ATv exhaust system is next to nothing. Bonne chance
