Default 2004 Sportsman 700 EFI

I just got this machine this winter and it runs great when I am at my house but as soon as I take it to higher elevations it starts cutting out and dies. Then I have to let it sit for five minutes before it will start again. Does anyone know what this could be and how I would fix it.

What kind of elevations are you talking about? Sometimes you would need to rejet for the elevations. I believe most bikes come preset for 0'-3000'.

Can you rejet a EFI machine , I thought the whole point of buying EFI was for the fact that it automatically adapts to elevation changes ?

Recall only applies to carb models not efi systems.

Doh! I suggested trying to rejet an EFI. which I'm pretty sure wouldn't work. My mind instantly thunk carb model for 2004.

Check the fuel tank vent that runs into the headlight pod area for any kinks, could be just getting enough air to run a short time in high altitude then will die until enough air is built back up for fuel flow. If vent line is clear, then could be fuel pump getting weak. OPT

Bingo! I would think that it is vapor locking in you.
