Default 2002 sportsman 500 creeping!!

I have a 2002 sportsman 500 and ever since i changed the belt its been creeping bad! After a search on here the answer seems to be clutch alignment, so i got some shims from an online polaris dealer.

What happens now is that on initial startup the creeping is gone. Once i give it some throttle the belt seems to hug the inner sheeve and the creeping is back. The belt does not go back to center. I added more shims, actually to many just to see what would happen and the belt still continues to hug the inner sheeve.

Now what could my problem be? I ordered the same part number polaris belt the i took off.

How's your idle speed? if it is a touch high, and you have a new, thicker belt, it could be grabbing a bit, where the older, worn belt was not. I dont know if a Polaris snowmobile clutch alignment tool would work, I know on my Polaris sleds, clutch alignment is pretty critical.

I fought with the exact same thig forever. Ended up loosening the motor mount and using a alignment tool, and its worked great since. Also change the 2 washers in the primary the PTFE one and the brass one.

2001 and 2002 were the ones that had the most creeping problems. Sometimes shimming would work, other times replacing the fiber washer in the front clutch and replacing the original brass washer in the one way cap with a spacer shim out of a rear non ebs clutch would help, along with loosening the motor mount as you mentioned and "allow" the clutches to align themselves or actually pulling back on the front engine mount to help get a tad bit of slack. I think it was a combination of things on these models, especially finally doing away with the brass washer that wore too fast in the front clutch, and finally going to different clutches later on. yep, sounds like the ebs bushing or fiber washers are worn on the primary clutch which is the most common issue of the creeping.

I know this might be a long shot, but does anyone have part numbers for those items? My local dealer is really not that competent...

you might want to look it up on a microfische and when you get there tell them what number it is and they can get the part number. I've had to do that a couple times with the closest of the 2 dealers around. They see the same schematic that all the websites use at the dealerships so you say part number 14 in the whatever section and they'll see the same thing you saw at home.

#7556204 for the inner fiber washer and #7556202 for the metal washer under the cap, BUT you have to have the spider tool to separate the clutch to install these washers, plus if your going that far I would install six (6) new front clutch buttons #5431936 if worn. OPT

Finally got around to doing this. Replaced the from fiber washer, metal washer and 6 new buttons. Still have the same problem.

Im thinking it could be the one way bearing?
