slipping belt

Three weeks ago I washed my quad and put tire shine on the whole thing it looked brand new. Sunday I pulled it out to go riding after it was warmed up i started up a slight grade it started to slip it went to about 5000 rpms so i backed off the gas stopped then continoued up the hill slower then on a wide open trail I gave it more gas it did it again!!! So I headed for home there was a tree across the trail I thuoght no biggie I got stuck on it winched myself off got home put it away.... shuold a belt go with no warning? could it of got tire dressing on it there are no holes in the cover I pulled the drain plug out it was dry. can the belt be cleaned and if so with what? If I go with a new belt I know I'll use a polaris but if I deside to get a performance clutch which one I have stock tires and exhaust don't plan on getting different ones. How hard is it to change the belt?clutch and belt?

Take the belt cover off and take a look, its a easy job. Taking the floor board off is a bit of a pain with all the bolts to the fenders,you also remove the foot brake leaver. I can do it in 15 minutes now.
Can,t see how tire spray can enter the belt housing. You can go up to your seat in water and not get water on the belt.
Give the ATV a ride with no belt cover and see whats going on in there.

Soapy water. When you buy a new belt for a ATV or snowmobile they tell you to do that .
Make sure the belt goes back on the same way,some times there is a rotation arrow. If you clean your clutch sheeves use brake cleaner spay made for brake rotors.

Look's like he has a 08 thus you don't have to remove the foot brake leaver .

OOOPs ,that must of been the time I took the recoil cover off. Anyways' taking the belt cover off is a no brainer, it's a "what you see is what you get" kinda job.
Really you should be able to do it on the trail.
