polaris 400 4x4 trans oil change

Default polaris 400 4x4 trans oil change

Hello, New to this site,took your advice checked tranny oil ,found drain plug case is dry no oil. Where is the fill plug ,only fill I found a dip stick under air cleaner ,I think thats for the anti vibration oil,can't find fill plug for tranny . Ordered a book not here yet,thanks for the help, Gregg

Welcome to the forum! Depends on what year model? If you don't see a dipstick on the trans just look inside the right floor board and you will see a 9/16" plug on the trans. Remove and fill trans fluid to bottom of threads. Dipstick under the air box is for the counter balancer(holds 75cc 30wt oil) Or any multi grade will do. OPT

Thanks so much ,I found the bolt to fill tranny what weight oil should I use? Dealer wanted 300.00 plus parts for minor serive thought I would give it a try. Thanks again Gregg

polaris recommends agl, I use the same oil in tranny as engine on my 4 strokes, 5-30 Castrol syntec

Thanks I will head down after the race is over pick up some tranny oil, this is a great site ,thanks Gregg

Default 1999 polaris grinding

Thanks, the oil change I'm sure helped still grinding when trying to shift into high, I can shift into low but It still takes a few trys , thanks for the help Gregg

Try the linkage adjustment,if doesn't help then probably the shift box is worn out! Also if you can remove the linkage from the trans belcranks and it shifts ok with vice grips or pliers,then its usually a sure sign the linkage ends have too much slack or the shift box needs to be replaced! OPT

I have a 2005 sportsman 400 and I need to know where the fill plug is for the transmission. Any way to answer that?? Thanks in advanced
