2002 Trail Boss 325 - clutch upgrade?

Hi, my wife rides a Trail Boss 325 and I have always noticed the clutch isn't that responsive, just sluggish response. Has anyone here put the EPI clutch rebuild in and noticed significant performance improvement? If so is it relatively easy to install and do you need the clutch puller tool?

Have you ever pulled the clutch cover and cleaned out the dust,replaced the belt if worn or too much stretch,and checked the clutches for worn guide and ramp buttons? Could be this could take care of a lot of the sluggishness if you haven't done so? OPT

I guess it is possible. The machine has only 250 miles on it but has been used as yard work too. The clutch isn't bad, just always seemed a little soft on take off. I can remove the cover though and check it for wear.
Saying you had a brand new machine though, would the EPI clutch upgrade make alot of difference? It isn't cheap so I wouldn't want to do it unless it made a significant difference.

I have an 02 325 that has had new springs put in it. It does engage at a higher rpm and feels like it has a better grab from the start. But even at that it is no faster than my 03 or 05 330 trailboss. Not sure what spring kit was put in. Hope that helps. If it was me and judging between these three I wouldn't personally spend the money. I understand the setup could be wrong but based on my limited experience with these three I wouldn't do it. Saying that I put a kit in my 98 sportsman and liked the response. Tony

If you're using it for a lot of yard work and it's been pulling heavy loads, you may want to check the belt for wear.
You can get the clutch kit, or just change out the primary spring to pink or white, depending on what gains you're looking for.
Personally, I do the spring first as it's cheaper.

I'll definitely check the belt for wear. Anything in particular I should look for when examining the belt?
I didn't know you could just change the main spring. That sounds great. Would I buy the spring from EPI? I'll have to look up the difference between the pink and white. Which would you reccomend? Also do I need a special Polaris tool to change the spring?

You could order from them, check ebay or even go to the dealer. If OPT doesn't post and let you know which is best, EPI could tell you which would be the better choice for you.
As for the belt, look for fraying, chunks of rubber in the housing or chunks missing from the belt. Check the sheaves for any unusual wear too. For no more than a belt is, you may want to just toss a new one on when you do the spring/kit.

Looking at some old posts it seems like people really like the EPI pink spring. Amazing the performance difference people claim to notice with it.

Well I pulled the clutch cover and everyhting looks great. I think the machine is just clutched very conservatively as I've read on other posts. Seems like changing out the main spring to the EPI pink spring is the way to go from what I read. Has anyone here done this and is really happy with it? The machine is mainly used by my wife for some trail riding.

I changed mine (2000) after I added an RCR stage 1 kit. Makes a big difference, especially with the extra boost I got from the kit. I've sold it since then but I also seemed to remember I went with a white spring. Much high engagement and that took a little adjusting to.
