Default Bad "Hall Effect" sensor

I did a bunch of searches for speedometer not working. I have a 2001 sportsman 500HO and the speedometer doesnt work. AWD does work but the speedometer doesn't. So does that mean its just a bad sensor on the right front wheel, if so is it easy to change out. Thanks

9 times out of ten times its the speed sensor failure. You can check for any mud/trash accumulation around the metal cap on the right brake caliper and check the connection to the speedo, but bet it's the sensor. I replaced a bunch of em! OPT

The right front rotor where the caliper doesn't hit and where the sensor sits is gunked up pretty bad. I'm going to try to clean it up and check the sensor connection at speedometer and then see if I can get it to work. If not I'm going to try a new sensor. Thanks again.

I replaced one then it failed so I just gave up at $80 a pop. The only thing that works on the speedo with a bad sensor is the speedo's lights and hour meter.

I can tell how fast I,m going by the speed the trees go by. Plus its so fogged up even if it worked I would never see the digital screen anyways, jut the needle.

Yeah whats the deal with the fogged up speedometer. Its always fogged up since I bought the machine. I looked up the sensor and I thought it was only $10 or $12. Unless i was looking at the wrong line item, I'll have to double check that. Thanks

Yup. You are right. Going to try to clean the sensor to see if that will work.

TLC buy your parts in the US and I'll continue buying my prescription drugs in Canada(which I do on a couple high dollar ones they have in the states!) So much cheaper for both of us unless you have to pay import fees. OPT

I have been doing more U.S shopping now. I do live on the border with Sault Saint Marie Michigan, and our Canadian Dollar is on par with the U.S dollar now. If they do charge Duty its not to bad.

There is a store in Sault Mi that lets us use there address as a mailing address for online orders for a small $3 fee. Much cheaper for some reason to pick it up yourself than have it ship into Canada directly.
