400 scrambler hard start

Have to get special socket to get that goofy nut off so the race can come off. The piston ring is out of spec in the cylinder so just getting a bore, new piston and rings then replacing the bearing.

You can use a flat punch to break this slotted nut loose,plus if its the one I'm thinking about it's reverse threads! Lefty-tighty Righty-loosey. Plus when you reinstall it use blue loctite on the threads and you can stake it tight with a punch,THAT IS if you don't want to buy the slotted socket. OPT

Thanks was reverse thread! But looks like crank seals no good hopefully machine shop can check the crank bearings the whole kit is 220 shipped . Also looks like reeds aren't completely sealed is there a huge gain with after market reeds? Or just replace reeds?

You can install Boysen or V Force reeds,but if you don't improve the exhaust system,etc why spend the extra money unless you can find em cheaper than OEM? OPT

My exhaust is a header with wide open muffler

Bearings on the inside were good but crank seals and outer bearings were shot

All up and running but she did kill out at half throttle? Has maybe 15 miles on it and my daughter was driving and she just shut down about half mile from house. Ahead tried with key and it wouldn't start. Walked home got me and we went back and it wouldn't start for me with key and then i pull started it in 6 pulls with light throttle. Any suggestions?

Oil is double mixed with tank and oiler.

IF you did install a new top end did you bleed the 10mm screw on the head? If not it can overheat and die.Just recheck compression,make sure you have fire from the coil,bleed head to remove air from cooling system (if you haven't done this), check that you have a good battery connections and try again. OPT

I cracked the bolt loose and let it be for ten minutes. She ran good other then the starter only working when it wants too . It is extremely snappy just ask my boy... His rebuilt 400ex saw the taillight up to 40 before i let off .
