How to service clutches?

Easier just to pull the clutches and work on them on the bench. You will need a clutch puller and a spider removal/installation tool for the front clutch. If you don't have a repair problem and just want to check the clutches out,best to have an open area and a air compressor just to blow all the belt dust from the clutches while still mounted. Plus check the front clutch buttons for excessive wear, belt for any glazed/burnt areas. That's about as far as you can get on external service of clutches. Don't think you have to worry right now on a brand new one unless you have a lot of miles on it already
Plus looks like the 2012 Sportsman 400 uses the old 3211077 belt and isn't an EBS clutch system which means you have less things you have to worry about on the clutches. (retired late 2010, haven't kept up with all the changes!) OPT

Thanks again! Once the dealer does the first service, they will not see it again unless it is a warranty issue. I dont mind buying some tools, so I can pull the clutches.
I dont have EBS, but may add it later.
Do I have to use any solvents to wipe the sheaves off?

i just serviced both clutches and basicly as mentioned blow them out(alot of belt dust) and i used a scotch brite pad to clean and scour the sheeves and also clean the weight and roller faces. make sure the weight pins are free and not too bad. depending on the secondary clutch if not a roller take apart and check the ramps(shoes that helix rides on) to make sure thier not worn out. i actually turned mine around to put the new side towards the slides on the helix. imo

Just pull up on the center of the belt to get slack and roll it off the rear clutch. When you reinstall just position on the front clutch and roll it back on the rear. OPT
