Default my scram blown?

1995 Polaris scrambler 400 4x4 with less then year old rebuild..
Son was riding it and all of a sudden making a ton of lower end noise and he shut it down.
Pulled her home and it takes a lot of fuel to start and just sounds like lower end noise. Pulled clutch cover and when I pulled cover off a nut with a stud(threaded) fell from just above the cover. It came from bottom of jug(one of 4 around it)
Now am I in for a full rebuild or would lower end leak make that much of an issue?

Air leak from the cylinder can cause it to run lean and possibly damage crank bearings, rod bearing, piston, etc. Air leaks alter the fuel, oil, air mixture ratio to where it's too lean and will run very hot. Sounds like you need to tear it down. OPT

Forgot also,if you just did a top end only a year ago and not a full engine rebuild,it could just be the bottom end is worn and needs to be rebuilt and you could possibly save the piston and rings?. One reason I never wanted to do just a top end on older 2 strokes. OPT

Check Ebay,BUT beware of fully bored out/worn out cylinder liners. If you can't find a good used one you can have it resleeved(if the liner is all that's cracked) at places like Lancort, etc.Last I had one done was a couple years ago(about $200-$225 if I remember correctly?) OPT
