Predator 50 Has Us Stumped
#1
Hey guys ... We have an 05 Predator 50 that is acting crazy ... Picked it up a short while back and it had been sitting for many years in dry storage ... Did all the carb cleaning and fuel system cleaning ... Cleaned out the pipe ( which was packed full of tiny pine cones ) ... New spark plug and it fired right up and ran like a champ ... Parked it and went to take my 4 year old riding it a few days later and we have no spark ... It's been sitting for about three months now and last weekend I checked and it had spark ... Fresh fuel once again and went riding for several hours with no problems ... Parked it and went back to ride again that evening and no spark again ... My buddy has the same 4 wheeler so we changed out the Coil ... CDI Box ... Voltage regulator and the resistors ... Still no spark ... The only fuse I could find by the battery is good ... All safety switches seem to be in order as well ... Thinking that the only other thing it could be is the Stator
... Any help would be greatly appreciated ... Thanks

Stators were the most problem on the 50s and 90s atvs. You can pop off the plastic cover and try to clean around the flywheel and pick up coil. Best if you have a puller to pull the flywheel though so you can clean the stator properly and inside the flywheel for accumulated dirt. Later models tried to seal the air inlet better to keep out dirt and water which would short the stators out. I just have the specs on the 90 stator which I think is different than the 50,but if you still don't have spark after cleaning you can try here to see if they can help an older 50 manual. Thanks OPT ... That's my plan for this weekend after my older boys college graduation Saturday ... I realize you are retired but help an old boy out
... I'm sure you still have the itch to partake in some post retirement hands on action
.. My 4 year old would really appreciate it
