2007 Polaris Ranger XP 700 EFI
#11
I own a 2007 Polaris Ranger XP 700 EFI and when the engine is warm/hot, the engine begins to sputters and loose power. Have replaced battery and spark plugs. Recently install 2500 lb. winch and spliced into the ignition hot side for power to winch. I have seen comments about the possibility of being caused by a weak fuel pump. The fuel pump is mounted in the fuel tank and I have checked on the part and the only thing I can find is that you have to replace the tank in order to get a new fuel pump. I hope I am wrong on this. The engine does not sputter when in neutral and engine is revved up.
In the last 12 months we have spent about $1,000 trying to fix the problems with it.
Now they (dealer) are telling us the fuel pump needs replacing (along with the tank!) to the tune of at least another $600.
No, thank you. Not going there.
So I started researching online. Found a pump online for about $40.
(Wow. Can you spell humungous difference??)
Hopefully we can install it ourselves.
Does anyone have any hints to help us do the job?
We are kind of handy, mechanically, but not the most experienced around.
What about dealing with the gas tank?? That's a little scary.
Thanks in advance....

You don't mention whether it's a 500 or 700,but really doesn't matter as both just unscrew from the tank. I'd remove the battery positive cable, open the gas cap, plus remove the shrader valve cap on the fuel rail and press it in to remove any fuel pressure and air.Disconnect the wiring and fuel line, then pull up the pump assembly. Your replacement should be just the pump body and possibly the screen. You have to remove the old pump, install the new pump and screen while keeping regulator and the rest of the assembly intact.Replace it in the tank, hook the battery up,turn the key on to prime up the system. The pump assembly looks similar to this. The new one you've ordered should have just the pump and screen. One extra note: regulators themselves can go out or become weak. If this is the cause of the original problem you're back to square one unless you can find one online somewhere. Several of the forums discuss this and the only answers I've found are on a couple Razr forums to where they bypass the internal regulator and install an external one? I'd like to see this.. Also if you have access to a fuel pressure gauge the new pump should hold 39 psi on the fuel rail with no drop in pressure. If it doesn't have this much or isn't consistent, again it could be the regulator.Good luck.

My ranger died . No pressure from fuel pump. Had replaced pump last may. Emailed seller and he sent me a new one no questions asked. Removed assembly from tank and discovered that the 3 pin connector on the tank side of the assembly had 2 of the pins broken off. assembly is attached to tank with 6 Torx machine screws. Trying to locate a used assembly but so far no luck. one dealer said to install an inline pump. Any pointers on how to set up the new pump?
