Predator question
#1
Hello All, newbie here. Recently purchased a 01 Predator 500. I've taken it out several times in the last month and I love this machine! The guy i bought it from told me to always let it warm up before riding, so i do. Usually about 5 minutes. Today I let it warm up for about 3 minutes before taking off. When I jumped on and pulled the clutch lever to shift the overheat light came on. When i let go of the clutch the light went off. Anybody know why it would do this? Why the light would go off when i let go of the clutch? Eventually it stopped doing this and I rode it for about an hour with no problems.

Welcome! Since the Predator didn't come out until 2003 not 2001, I "assume" it's at least this year model. Could be just a fluke occurrence on the light, but check that the coolant is full in the radiator and over flow bottle, and that the fan cycles on and off properly without the hot light coming on. If it continues it could be a faulty thermo sensor at the top of the engine. Look at this link. Item #1 http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...2003&fveh=5629

Thanks for the reply OPT. Yep you are right it is a 03. Confused it with my Yamaha. Just got in from riding it and it did it again. But once the light goes off it stays off throughout the ride. The coolant level is full. I'll check that sensor to see if it's faulty. Thanks for the info!
